the ant and the grasshopper

The article “the ant and the grasshopper” by “W. Somerset Maugham” from ESL class states two people tom and George play roles same as the ant and grasshopper from fable story.  Like ant, George was working hard.  But tom was different to the George, he was lazy and he just wanted to have fun for everyday life.  His attitude to life was similar to the grasshopper, because grasshopper singing to the summer and begged for food when winter came.  But the ending between tom and grasshopper was totally different. Tom was getting rich and still had fun for life.  After reading those two story, I was more believed in Maugham’s story which was the real event happened to two people.

In my opinion, people should enjoy their lives and take rest after long working for money.   As we know many people like George hard working every day, that makes them looking order and never know what happening now outside of their working place. It shouldn’t be the life we want to live in, because we may have some problems if we just working all the time. Like many immigrants, they come here to have better life. Because of that they need to work harder than Native Americans, also some situation like they don’t speak and write English make them have no chance to have better job which is not need to work for many hours in their restaurant.  I think they should take time to relax that is better to their health; also they can learn something when they are playing outside.

Depending on my opinion and Maugham’s story, hardworking is harmful to people. Proper rest is good to us. Sometimes we may have windfall when we are playing and going to a vocation.

The Ant and the Grasshopper

The Maugham’s story and the Aesop fable of the ant and the grasshopper are same.  These two stories are both talking about the personality between different people.  In Maugham’s story, the George is like the ant hard working.  But the Tom is opposite, he is lazy and he just like to have fun isn’t like to work.  In this way tom is like the grasshopper.  So, I think these two stories are almost same.  The Ant and grasshopper are metaphor to George and Tom.

the friendship

In my opinion the friendship is alive and well.  In is article, many sentences support that.  One of the paragraphs Rules of Friendship said that over two-thirds people said that if they had a terminal illness, they would tell a friend. Eighty- seven percent of the respondents say they talk with friends about sexual activities. This information proves the friendship is alive and well.  The friends are part of my life, they always help me to get out of trouble, and bring me a lot of fun when my friend talk and play with me.

Sunday in the Park

The article "Sunday in the Park" by Bel Kaufman tells us a story about children play in the park and two families have a problem between them. Larry’s parents sit on the bench, and Larry plays in the sandbox. Joe is another boy who throws the sands at Larry.  Larry’s mom tells his don’t do that again, but Joe's father don’t agree Larry’s mom. Although Morton wants to with Joe's father, he does not want. They stand up and argue at each other. Then, Morton’s family leave park. Larry began crying. Morton and his wife think it is better to leave park and not to fight with them.

opinion and interpretation

after reading this story, i felt that kind of problem are very normal.  i think Larry's father was doing right. fighting couldn't solve the problem.  but another kid 's father shouldn't had that kind reaction to Larry's father.  and he should teach his child not to do this.

opinion and interpretation for reading assigment 10/26

I like it, because it is writing by aking questions to the author and she answer those questions clearly by using the research which is discovered by herself from Lacks farmily and history. that makes me easier to understand what the story about by using this way.  also, this article has the definitions for the vocabularies which is hard to readers. it is good to finish an article.  and i hope that all the english story for the people whos like me not speak and write english well have the words definitions in the stories. it helps alot and save the time for more reading.

Mary puts Henrietta’s cells into clean test tubes and writes “HeLa” on them to present Henrietta Lacks. Dr. Gey took eight year to graduate from medical school after that Gey and Margaret built their lab. In his lab, Henrietta's cells start growing. After Henrietta went home, she did everything like before. She didn't like Turner Station so she often brings her children back to Clover. A) The science in the book- 1) Invasive carcinomas are treated aggressively. 2) Noninvasive carcinomas wasn't deadly as most doctors believed. 3) Cervical corcinomas are divided into two namely: invasive and noninvasive carcinomas. 4) gynecology is the study of diseases and women hygiene

B) The society at that time : the society at taht time was not fair. There was racial discicrimination.  The colored people and also Henrrietta did not have same opportunities with the white people. As we can read in the book, they could not to go to any hospitals even it was really emergency. At that time, if the colored people have severe health problem, they could be die or could be in worsen stituation. We have known that there was discrimination But we did not know the discrmination was severe like that much. Reading the book, we learned how severe the discrimination was at that time.

C) At beginning, the story is talking about that the author saw a picture that is turning up pretty often, but she had never known who is she. She began to be interested in this woman, once she was studying biology when she was high school student she heard about the name 'Henrietta Lacks' from Dr. Defler who is the professor of the biology class. She learned about Henrietta lacks and her cells, and it made her more interested in this woman. After that, the author was doing a lot of research for Henrietta Lacks.

Tuesday, September 20, 2011

The story “the immortal life of Henrietta lacks” had written by Rebecca Skloot.  At beginning of story is talking the author saw a picture that is turning up pretty often, but she had never know who is it.  She felt interest about this woman, once she was studying for biology she heard about a name which is Henrietta Lacks from Dr. Defler.   She leaned about Henrietta lacks and her cells, and that made her more interested about this woman.  After that, author doing a lot of research for Henrietta Lacks. The story was starting by researching for Henrietta lacks. It said that Henrietta raise by her grandpa, she had been live with many cousins, at that time they were helping grandpa with farm work.  When she grew older Henrietta and Day got married, and they had five children.  After her fifth child was born, she felt something wrong inside her body.  Because of that, she had to go to Hopkins hospital for healing.  The doctor had doing exam to check her tumor, and they find out that Henrietta had cervical cancer.  At that time many doctor have difference way of looking at cervical cancer.  Henrietta back to hospital for cure cause she knew that might be very bad.  Scientist Gey was doing research for human’s cell, and Defler had helping him to collect patients’ cell.  Henrietta’s cell had been collected too. For discovery Gey said that human’s cell might dead fast if it separated form body.

 Impression:

She is a strong woman, when she knew she had cancer she didn’t want her family member to worry about her.  And I think the doctor should ask Henrietta and then take her cell to somebody for doing research.

 Question:
How does Henrietta think that girls and boy should separate for playing during school?
